Carpinus Betulus Lucas

A very narrow, dense tree with dark grey bark, green catkins in the spring, and pleated oval leaves. Ideal for planting in small gardens and tree containers as well as in larger gardens. Water before planting. Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and twice as wide. Mix compost into the soil as you plant the tree. Water well and in dry weather until established. Apply an annual mulch of manure or compost around the base of the plant. Requires very little pruning. Remove diseased or crossing branches from late autumn to mid-winter.
